RULER is a school-wide approach adopted by SPS. Designed by Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence it is intended to promote emotional literacy, which includes Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions (the “RULER” skills). RULER implementation involves systematic professional development for the adults involved in the education of children (school leaders, teachers, support staff, and families) so that emotions become central to learning, teaching, and parenting.

For more information about this curriculum, see the RULER site and overview, this Seattle Public Schools page and this article from Education World. You may also contact your child’s teacher.
